South of England Indoor U20/Sen Championships

Lee Valley 17/18 Jan 2015

Two of our more experienced athletes – Adela Hussain (Sen woman) and Maike Chapel (U20 woman) took on the rest of the South of England’s athletes to add to last week's U17 women's medal haul. Adela was first up on the Saturday with a silver in the women's shot putt 9.56mts – not quite a PB but a great start to the 2015 campaign.

Both ladies appeared for the Sunday trip to Lee Valley with Adela on first in the 60mt hurdles. Her PB suggested a final place was a definite possibility but hitting the first 3 hurdles left her 4th in a time of 9.68sec just outside a qualification place. Still she was content with her medal from Saturdays effort. Maike had only entered the high jump as her ankle needed some rest after a recurrence of her tendonitis. Two great opening jumps, the second equalling her 1.65mt PB meant she had 3 attempts at 1.70mts. Unfortunately this was to prove a little too much to ask of the ankle! She finished 4th but was happy in that the silver medal was won at the same height (1.65mts) and she just lost out on countback. She also reflected on a good performance that suggested 1.70+ will not be long in coming.
