SEAA U15/U17 Pentathlon Championships 12 January 2014

Alice Hopkins represented Radley in the u17 women's pentathlon with an almost faultless set of performances in the SEAA Pentathlon champs.
She approached her PB in the 60m hurdles with a 9.50 sec clocking then equalled her high jump PB of 1.42 mts with only a five stride approach quickly followed by a new shot PB of 9.23m.
As this was the first real try out of 2014 you might have expected a drop of in standards as we entered the 4th event, the Long Jump but Alice produced a series of jumps within cms of her PB finishing with a 4.82m jump.
The dreaded 800m was the final event but with the prospect of a top 6 finish and a massive overall score PB Alice set off determined to complete in style - a 2:51.67 clocking meant she eventually finished 7th overall with a new overall PB score of 2779 pts, a massive 200 pts more than she scored in her last U15 competition only 3 months ago - winter training going well!

Blake Strickland-Bennett represented Radley in the U15 boys pentathlon. With 5 PBs from 6 possible results (Inc overall score) Blake had to be pleased with his day out.
He started by knocking a full second off his hurdle PB clocking 10.47 sec to lie 5th in the competition. A new long jump PB followed and he went well over 4m to 4.25m for the first time. The shot and high jump followed and he had 3 shot pbs but a disappointment in the high jump - due to lack of opportunity to train. His main reason for doing the pentathlon was to get experience in preparation for the individual 800m champs next weekend. To this end he did himself proud in the 800m with a huge PB of 2:31.67 some 16 sec quicker than his previous best.
The result meant Blake finished 9th.

Overall a very good day out!
