SEAA Indoor Individual Champs U15/U17 – Lee Valley, 10 Jan 2016
5 Athletes – Petrina Chantler Edmond, Steph ward, Ollie Stacey, Blake Strickland-Bennet and Holly Griffiths-Brown pitted themselves against the best in the south of England at the indoor championships.
Petrina did the long jump (4.55mts) 200 (28.18sec) and the 60 mt hurdles (10.23sec) a very solid set of performances but no pbs. Steph Ward on the other hand had a huge pb in the 60 hurdles getting her 11.0sec time down to 10.53sec.
She then went on to the high jump were the starting height (1.45mts) was 7 cms above her pb!! She showed real perseverance to clear the height on her 3rd attempt and walked away with that as her new pb! The 200 was not surprisingly slow after that but the u17 girls had a good day overall. Holly (u15 girl) was not to be outdone as she just missed a pb in the 60 mt hurdles (10.65) and the long jump (4.69) before setting a new pb in the shot of 9.07mts.
Ollie Stacey was a real medal contender in the u17mens 60 mt hurdles. A safe first round 8.76sec run put him into the semi but a bad seeding meant he was only 4th (first 3 qualified) and he would have been 2nd in the other semi with his 8.78sec clocking a real frustration as he would no doubt have taken silver as the final was not quick. Blake had a good day shaving his 60mt hurdle time by 2 hudreths to 9.71 sec and knocking 1.5sec off his 200mts time clocking a very creditable 25.13sec in his heat.
Overall a great day and some tired and happy athletes set of home ready to start it all again on Monday.
