Teddy Hall Relays 2011
Teddy Hall Relays 2011, Wednesday 9th March 2011, Iffley Road track, Oxford.
Please click here for an entry form. A annual student-run event held in the centre of Oxford which starts and ends at Iffley Road Track, the home of the 4-minute mile. Each year, Oxford University Cross Country Club (OUCCC) holds this event in March to raise funds for the club and this year they will also be supporting two charities, Right To Play (RTP) and Running Across Borders (RAB) which have the broad aims of using sport to help disadvantaged young people. Both charities have groups based in Oxford that are run by students themselves: indeed the later was started by a former OUCCC member, Garrett Ash.
To find out more about these charities do, visit http://www.righttoplay.com/uk/Pages/Home.aspx and http://www.runningacrossborders.org/.
On the day, both charities will have stalls and RAB will be collecting kit (including trainers that are worn out) that will be sent out to Africa and donated to talented runners out there who are training to reach elite level. The relay event consists of teams of 4 men, 3 women or a mixed team of 2 men and 2 women; also for anyone preparing for a marathon or wanting to get in some long run, teams are more that welcome to have individual runners running multiple legs; there is a prize for fastest solo “teams”. Each leg is 3.6 miles: starting at the Iffley road track, runners head over Magdalen Bridge past the Botanic Gardens, through Christ Church meadow, over Folly Bridge before proceeding on to the towpath along the Isis back towards the track.
