Oxford Mail XC League round 1 - match report
Sunday 7th November saw the first Oxford Mail Cross Country competion of the season taking place at Ascott under Wychwood. On a sunny yet freezing cold day, Radley were represented across all age groups with a large turnout of over 50 runners. In difficult conditions and on one of the most difficult courses there were great performances all round.
In the U11 Girls there were 6 runners in the top 20 with Millie Perrin, Shelbie Jackson and Gabriella McErlain all coming in the top 10. In the U11 Boys we had 3 runners in the top 10 - Harry New, Max Crowther and Archie Scott. Well done to all the runners in this age group many of which were competing for the first time.
In the U13 Girls again we had 4 runners in the top 20 with Megan Humpheys coming a fantastic 3rd and Hollie Bristow relative newcomer coming in an excellent 9th - closely followed by Erika Davies in 11th and Flora Insley in 13th. In the U13 boys Robby Crowther finished in 8th place and TJ McClimont in 16th - again another 2 in the top 20.
In the U15/U17 boys race Christian von Eitzen, Alastair Duff and Jack Humphries put the boys team top of this age group with 3rd, 8th and 11th positions. Fantastic runs all round. With Adam Breslin, Charlie Miller and Julian Davies we even managed to get a second team score so well done to all the boys in this age group.
In the senior womens race Gemma Bridge finished in a great 5th position. We had 8 runners in this race including some newcomers (Alison Smith, Mandy Scott and Andrea Snuggs) so well done to all of you for running around the hilly, muddy and very long course at Ascott under Wychwood.
In the senior mens race in a very high standard of competition, George Miller ran an excellent race to finish 13th. With Mick Cottam, Philip Davies and Tim Loyd this was a good team performance.
For my first race organising the Radley team I would like to say thanks to all of the runners that turned out to represent their club. It was great to see the old faces and also the new ones. It was a great turnout from the club in a competition that had a record turnout of runners. Each age group saw many more runners so all performances wherever you came were excellent. Well done to everyone!!!!
