SML 31st July 2010 - Tilsley

Radley AC men’s team produced another impressive display in their final Southern League Division 3 match of the 2010 season to win their match comfortably by 12 points.

They dominated the field events, dropping just one point across all jumps and throws. This result was assisted by U20 Jordan Steptoe who won the B string LJ (6.21m) and TJ (11.81m) with pbs in both and a CR in the LJ for his efforts. In the throws, Jim House returning after a 2 year break due to injury caused by a serious accident showed he had lost none of his power, winning the A string shot (10.89m), discus (36.22m) and B string javelin (41.54m) in impressive form. The throws were also ably supported by Chris Franks.

Multi-eventer Osman Muskwe assisted the teams points haul by winning 4 events and coming 3rd in another as well as running a leg in the winning 4 x 400. This was even more impressive as he was carrying a slight injury.

U17 James Purnell-Lacey made his debut in the men’s team with an excellent pb in the 400m (54.9) after winning the B string 800m. He also ran a great leg in the 4 x 400m team. U20 Corey Brooks also gained a pb improving his 400mH time by 7s to clock 68.0.

The sprint team of Rueben Asenso and Ben Owen also had a good day both running seasons bests in both 100 and 200m and helped the 4 x 100m relay to a win.

In the middle distance races Stuart Ferguson won both the 800m and 3k s/c by large margins.

All in all, a great day of athletics, however it was not enough to move the team up the league table and therefore they finish in 3rd place with only 2 teams gaining promotion. This is a bit disappointing as they have won 4 of the 5 matches in style but dropped key points in the long trip to Plymouth where they had only 7 athletes.
