Excellent performances at SML, Portsmouth

Joe Bibby - Posted on 12 July 2010

In the penultimate SML match of the season, Radley’s mens team produced another great performance to win their match at Portsmouth despite having tough competition from 3rd placed Southampton and the home team Royal Navy. It was a fantastic team effort that won the day but this was helped by some great individual performances.
No fewer than 4 Club Records (CRs) were broken on the day and these were: U20 LJ - Jordan Steptoe– 6.16m, U20 100m - James Broughton & Chris Masters – 11.4, U20 3K Steeplechase – Stuart Ferguson – 10.42.8 and U17 3K S/C – Ed O’Hara – 12.42.2.

In addition to the CRs a great performance was again delivered by multi-eventer Ossy Muskwe who won no fewer than 5 events (LJ TJ, HJ, discus and Javelin) and ran an impressive 4 x 400 relay leg to help the team to victory just outside the CR.

One of the best races of the day was the 800m where both the Radley athletes, Phillipe Essink and Henry Tuffnell raced away from the field early on and stuck close together until the line, Phillipe taking the win in an impressive 1.57.8 with Henry just 2 tenths behind in 1.58.0, they were 8 seconds clear of the rest of the field.

The overall result saw Radley win the match 22 points clear of second placed Royal Navy.

This result has now moved the team up to 3rd place in the league with one match remaining on 31 July.
