Regional Award achievement
We’re pleased to announce that Jill Slatter has been awarded the England Athletics South East Regional Council Award for Services to Athletics, following a nomination from the Club’s committee (and other individual nominations).
Jill was one of the founder members of Radley AC in 1972 and continues to support its activities acting as a sprint/hurdle coach, track judge and sitting on Committee.
She started as an athlete at aged 12 and represented her club and school. After a break to get married and have a family she joined former club mates to form Radley Ladies AC. The Club has grown during the years and is now dual gender and has over 200 members as well as being the premier Club in Oxfordshire and one of the best small clubs in the South of England. She has been a dedicated coach for over 44 years specialising in hurdles and still supports athletes of all ages and abilities to meet their potential. As a track judge, Jill supports both Club and County fixtures tirelessly. Jill has also been a member of Oxon AA supporting and developing athletics across the County and remains a Radley AC Committee member.
In 2013 Jill underwent spinal surgery but this has not deterred her from doing what she can and continuing to support local athletics on a regular basis.
Despite her years (now 80) she is a key part of the Club's activities and this commitment, dedication to the sport and passion is being formally recognised for someone so inspirational and a good friend to many in the sport (even after many, many years). Jill’s almost 50 years in the sport are now being celebrated and rewarded through this award.
Jill was presented with her award by Liz Purbrick from England Athletics.
