UK U20 Nationals – Bedford, 18/19 June 2016
On 18-19 June, 4 Radley athletes took part in the U20 national championships at Bedford.
Kathryn Woodcock and Luisa Chantler Edmund competed in the U20 womens' discus. After a consistent series of throws over 44m Kathryn finished the competition with a new personal best and club record of 45.89m to finish the competition in the silver medal position behind Divine Oladipo (Blackheath) who threw a UK lead distance of over 48m.
Team mate Luisa bounced back after a disappointing SEAA Champs recently to take the bronze medal with another European Youth qualifying throw of 45.06m. An amazing double medal winning performance.
Kathryn is now in good form heading into the senior British Championships/Olympic trials on the 26th June and Luisa has the nervous wait for the selection panel for the Euro Youth Team on the 27th June. Good luck ladies.
Alice ran superbly in her 100mH heat to set a new PB of 14.25s to gain both a place in the final and the British Champs/Olympic trials on 26 June. In the final, Alice clattered hurdles 1 and 3 to trail in 8th in the final (15.07s). Unfortunately, as the long jump and hurdles timings clashed, Alice only managed to get an abortive jump in after her hurdles heat.
Tom Anstice took part in a very strong U20 javelin competition, where on paper he was likely to place 12th out of the 13 competitors. After a great consistent competition, Tom managed to take 9th place with a 55.72m throw – just 8cm off his pb. Interestingly, this throw would have been good enough for 3rd place in the U23 age group but it wasn’t to be in the U20s!
A great day out for all 4 Radley athletes. Well done!
