European Veteran Athletics Championships Izmir Turkey

Three masters ladies from Radley AC travelled to Izmir in Turkey for the European Championships and all fared well in the scorching heat, a lot of the time being 40+ in the stadium

Paula Owen W35 in her first European international championships continued her success from the nationals where she won a Bronze and a gold to produce two bronze medals, the first came in the 100m clocking a time of 13.03s then in what was a very closely fought contest in the 400mh came the second bronze with a time of 67.15s this was also a seasons best.

Janice Ellacott W50 ran a seasons best in the semi final of the 100m 14.58s coming 3rd to qualify for the final later in the day, in the final Janice ran a time of 14.69s and came 5th. Two days later she ran in the semi final of the 400m with a time of 70.16s coming 3rd to qualify for yet another final which was the following day and came 4th with her her 2nd fastest time of the year 67.30s. Janice then was part of the W50 4×100m and 4 x400m relay teams and picked up 2 well earned silver medals.

Finally Lyn Ahmet W60 produced her 2nd furthest Long Jump of the year to finish 5th in the long jump final, then at 8.30am the following morning competed in the 400m coming 8th 90.64s. The following day got better winning Gold in the Triple Jump with 7.26m after a days break she ran in the 200m final and came 6th with a seasons best time of 35.58s. Finally on the last day she was part of the 4×400m relay team which took Gold.

So between the three ladies they bought a haul of 6 medals back from these European Championships, and all 3 have the European Indoor Championships in Poland next March firmly in their sights.
