Season Opener at Newbury

For many of the Clubs throwers the Arthur Killberry memorial meeting at Crookham Common was the chance to see how winter training had gone and get an early feel for outdoor throwing.

With 6 athletes taking part the club was well represented in many age groups and events.

In the U13 girls April Bedford made her debut and threw 22.03m in the Javelin and 15.97 in the discus. Two PB's and gold and bronze medals. The javelin was an excellent throw and on last years ranking would have put her in the top 70 in the UK for her age group. Abbey Cottam claimed two PB's with a shot of 5.15m and a discus of 14.12m.

In the U13 boys Robbie Crowther also improved his PB's in the shot with a throw of 6.65m and in the discus with a throw of 19.61m. His javelin of 30.87m was not quite a PB but it was good enough to win the competition.

In the U15 girls Kathryn Woodcock threw a massive PB of 31.06m in the discus to win the competition. This throw was more than a metre better than the English Schools National Standard and should secure her a place in this years events. Her throws of 25.71m in the hammer and 7.97m in the shot were also PB's with the hammer throw good enough to win the competition. Ellen Chung's throws of 15.56m in the discus and 16.85m in the javelin were solid throws and are a good foundation to push on to PB's in the forthcoming Opens.

In the U17 women Emma O'Hara continued the successful day for Radley athletes. Her hammer throw of 42.03m was a PB and new club record. Like Kathryn the throw was better than the English schools National standard and should secure her a place in this years event. With a throw of 32.99m she also won the discus competition.
