Masters World Championships 2015

Five athletes from Radley AC travelled to Lyon in France for the Masters World Championships.

O35 Ben Owen competing in his first ever masters international proved his worth, in the heats of the 100m he ran 11.24 and in the semi final ran 11.37 finishing 10th overall. Then in the 200m he won his heat in 22.47 and in the semi was 2nd with 22.44 before finishing 4th in the final 22.37. He then finished off the champs as part of the 4 x 100m relay team winning a bronze medal.

Not to be outdone by his wife Paula in the O35 100m she ran 13.11 coming 4th and in the semi final came 5th with a faster time of 13.03. Paula then ran in the 400mh geting a PB and also a Bronze medal. Paula took part in the 80mh up to the second hurdle when a serious knee injury prevented her continuing in the champs.

Jan Ellacott took part in O50 100m but pulled a muscle preventing her competing in the 200m and 400m. With some physio she managed to get fit for the 4 x 400m relay only to lose the gold medal when the 4th member of the team, in the lead by 80m, pulled up injured.

Alastair Duncan O55 recovered really well from a injury sustained in a training session before competing in the 100m and 200m. He then ran 59.62 and came 2nd in the heat of the 400m 3rd in the semi final 58.56 to reach the final where he came 7th with a 2 year best time of 57.32. Alastair was also part of the 4 x 400m relay team which took the bronze medal.

Finally, Lyn Ahmet in the O60 age group came 19th overall in the 100m 16.77 and 20th in the 200m 36.44. She came 9th in the triple jump with 7.00m and also qualified for the long jump final coming 12th jumped 3.50m in qualifier and 3.33m in final.
