Sainsbury's School Games, 4 Sep 2015 – Manchester

Commitment, dedication and perseverance are not things you can buy and apply like ointments or tonics. They come along with disappointment and are the stuff that make us great. After the near misses of the UK Nationals last weekend at Bedford where Luisa Chantler came 4th in both the u17 shot and discus and Alice Hopkins came 5th in the 80mt hurdles and had the bronze medal, in the long jump. Snatched from her grasp by the very last jump of the competition – it would be natural to feel somewhat downhearted.

Radley AC events:

Radley Hit the Headlines

Following Radley's strong finish to the season at both senior and master level there is a recent newspaper article summarising some of our athletes' performances. The article can be viewed here.

Our juniors have their last league match on 6 September at Banbury – good luck.

Team Relay Marathon

There will be a relay marathon on Sunday 22 November 2015 at the Roger Bannister Running Track, Iffley Road, Oxford. It is open to all OAN clubs and will be a major fund-raiser for the network YDL team. This event isn't just for middle distance runners: sprinters, throwers, parents, friends and coaches are all welcome as it’s also a charity event!

Masters World Championships 2015

Five athletes from Radley AC travelled to Lyon in France for the Masters World Championships.

O35 Ben Owen competing in his first ever masters international proved his worth, in the heats of the 100m he ran 11.24 and in the semi final ran 11.37 finishing 10th overall. Then in the 200m he won his heat in 22.47 and in the semi was 2nd with 22.44 before finishing 4th in the final 22.37. He then finished off the champs as part of the 4 x 100m relay team winning a bronze medal.

SAL Match 5 – Perivale, 15 Aug 2015

Radley Promoted

Radley travelled to Perivale for its final SAL fixture of 2015 with just 23 athletes (depleted due to the SEAA U17 championships, holidays, work & family commitment and injuries).

Despite the numbers, the Radley athletes rallied as usual, showing great team spirit and commitment to win the match by a huge margin. Radley 1st with 238, host Club Ealing in 2nd 178.

SEAA U15/U17 Championships – Ashford 15/16 Aug 2015

The long haul to Ashford for the Southern Champs is always tiring and was doubly so this year with athletes in the first event on both days. A 5 o’clock wake up call followed by a 2 hour+ drive there and then a 3 hour+ drive back (both days!! – thanks M25!!) would inevitably take its toll you would think. NOT SO - Championships are fast becoming de rigueur for Alice Hopkins and Luisa Chantler Edmond.

Paula in Form

Paula Owen’s preparations for the World Masters Championships could not have gone any better after she became a double British champion at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on 25 - Sun 26 July 2015. Owen won the W35 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles at the British Masters Championships. She set a season’s best of 67.04secs in the 400m hurdles, more than seven seconds ahead of Katherine Wellam of Sale Harriers Manchester. Owen will now compete at the world championships in Lyon, France, which begins on Tuesday, August 4.

Clubmate Lyn Ahmet claimed gold in the W60 triple jump and silver in the long jump.
