In the penultimate SML match of the season, Radley’s mens team produced another great performance to win their match at Portsmouth despite having tough competition from 3rd placed Southampton and the home team Royal Navy. It was a fantastic team effort that won the day but this was helped by some great individual performances.
The English Schools Championship in Birmingham over Friday and Saturday gave the six Radley athletes selected for the Oxford Schools team an opportunity to test themselves against the best athletes in their age groups in the country.
In the Senior Girls hammer throw Aislinn Baird finished 10th a brilliant result as she was recovering from injury. Her throw of 38.56m was close to her personal best and showed her ability to compete under real pressure..
Sunday 27th June saw the final match of the Oxon Junior League at Tilsley Park. We anticipated a few problems due to the England vs Germany match being televised that day, a junior schools competition taking place at Iffley road and some athletes still being in the middle of exams or away at other competitions. Added to that the weather was forecast to be the hottest day of the year so far. Nevertheless I think we were all surprised at the turnout by Radley Athletes and their enthusiasm for the day and dedication to stay until the end of the completion.
We are looking to appoint a ‘Junior-coordinator’ who will work with the athletes in the under 9 to under 15 age groups. The coordinator will be a major communication mechanism between the parents and the club for the junior athletes (who are very much guided by their parents in the earlier years).
It has been agreed by the committee that regular forums are going to be held on the first Wednesday of each month. The forums are going to be held in Tilsley Park’s bar at the beginning of the training session. All athletes and associates are encouraged to attend.
Well done to Christian Von Eitzen (Junior Boy), Amy Greenway (Junior Girl), Kathryn Woodcock (Junior Girl), Hayley Perrin (Junior Girl), Emma O'Hara (Inter Girl) and Aislinn Baird (Senior Girl) who have been entered for the National Schools Track and Final Championships.
Radley A team posted a comfortable victory in their latest Southern Women’s League Premier Division meeting at Portsmouth.
They amassed 179 points to cruise to victory. In the senior section, Gemma Collier clocked a personal best of 1.02.0 to finish second in the 400m, and then won the 800m with another best time of 23.21.9.
Alex Cross clocked 14.6 in the B string under 15 girls’ 75m hurdles to finish third, while in the B string long jump.
