A superb day’s athletics resulted in Radley winning four out of six age group events as well as a substantial win overall. This was particularly creditable as this was the first match in Division 3 following last year’s promotion.
Apart from the overall team success, there were a number of highlights. Club records were broken by Ryan Craze in the U17 200m (22.4s), also an English Schools qualifying time, as well as the U17 men’s team in the relay (45.4s).
Radley travelled to Parliament Hill for their first SAL fixture of 2015.
The small team rallied to gain a second place behind a very strong Harrow team.
The strength of the day was the women’s throws – where we amassed a total of 30 points out of a possible 32 across the 4 events only dropping points in a very strong javelin competition.

Six medals – 4 gold a silver and a bronze was the reward richly deserved by the Radley squad who took ownership of the Birmingham Games. Alice Hopkins started the onslaught with a fantastic win in the 80 mt hurdles with a winning time that took her to 3rd on this year's UK ranking list.
Last Sunday was the first Oxon League match at Horspath, Oxford. Thank you to all athletes, parents and officials who supported us on the day. We had a bit of a depleted U15 and U17 girls teams as some athletes went to London to compete in the Alpha Beta competition, but well done to those who did compete in very windy conditions. It was also the first league competition for some of the quad kids and U13's - they all seemed to enjoy themselves and are looking forward to the next one!
The next Oxon League match is on Sunday 17th May in Banbury.
Oxon AA is in need of team managers for the following inter-county events this year:
- U13 at Kingsmeadow (26 July)
- U15/U20 at Copthall (Allianz) Area (23 August)
- U17 (tbc) at Marlow Bottom (19 July)
If you would like to volunteer your services please contact John Sear, Chairman of the Oxon AA.
Radley's Senior Ladies team battled against some strong competition as well as strong winds to come 3rd in their first team competition of the 2015 season.
The highlight of the day was newcomer to the team Christina Nick who threw a 2m PB to record 42.67m in the discus for 2nd place, she also came 2nd in the shot with 11.78m. Team mate and U17 Luisa Chantler-Edmond also recorded a PB with the heavier weight shot recording 11.10 for another 2nd place and gained valuable points in the discus B string with another 2nd (37.87m).
Two of Radley AC's master athletes travelled to Poland for the European Indoor Champs. Paula Woodland w35 just missed out of the 200m final by 0.03s after running 27.00s but won bronze in the 60mh with a time of 10.50s. Lyn Ahmet w60 ran 10.79s in the 60m and jumped 3.28m in the final of the LJ coming 7th, while in the TJ final jumped 7.08m coming 5th. Well done ladies, who are both preparing for the World Masters Championships in Lyon in August where fellow athlete Jan Ellacott will be joining them.
Radley College have asked us to remind all members who are training at the track to please observe caution when entering and leaving the premises. They would be grateful if we could observe the speed limits within the grounds.
Many thanks for your assistance.
