English Schools Regional Combined Events – Mansfield 28/29 June

This weekend sees the first of this year’s English schools events. 13 athletes head to Mansfield to represent Oxfordshire in the regional round of the ESAA combined events.  Two junior boys Ollie Stacey (Witney) and our own Blake Strickland Bennett will take on teams from 5 other counties, seeking a place in the national finals in Boston (Lincs) on 20/21 Sept.

The junior girls have a great chance of progressing as they are lead by the current UK number 1 – Jade O’Dowda (Oxf City) with strong support from Rebecca Scott (Banbury), Ellysha Franklin (Slough Jun) and our own Petrina Chantler Edmond. The team should challenge well with individual places up for grabs for those making the top 6 of the 24 competitors in this age group.

The inter girls is made up entirely of Radley athletes with Alice Hopkins in good enough form to challenge the 4000 point mark (a benchmark for success!) Beth Mulvany will be close on her heels with Michaela Tracey-Ramos and Abbey Cottam both making their debut in the event.

The lone senior girl is Maike Chapel (Radley) who looks certain to make up for missing out on the senior team win last year by grabbing an individual place in this year’s final.

The inter boys are lead by ever present Tim Stephens (Oxf City) who is in terrific form having been the first qualifier from Oxfordshire to grab a place in the ESSA individual events (400hds) in July. Our own TJ McClimmont will look to improve on his 4th place finish in last year’s junior boys competition which meant he missed out on the national finals by one place!

Watch out for the report next Monday to see how it went!!
