SEAA Regional U15 Championships - Ashford 17 Aug

Luisa Chantler Edmond (Radley AC/Cherwell School) already the national indoor shot champion, took on her close rival Sophie Mace (Walton AC), the number one ranked athlete, at the U15 SEAA championships at Ashford Kent. Sophie started with a good throw of 12-01mts, a distance Luisa had not been able to achieve as yet. It looked as though it might be a battle for silver! After a good opener of 11-70mts Luisa set a new PB in round 3 of 12- 17mts.

Sophie fought back with a 12-10mts throw but Luisa came back with 12-24mts to win gold!! This throw also took her to 2nd on the ranking list.

So with 3 of the 4 main championships now complete Luisa holds both the National indoor title, the Southern title and a silver from the English Schools, what price a gold at the National Outdoor champs in Bedford on 31 Aug. her winning throw was also a new Radley club record beating the longstanding 1978 A Franks throw of 12.10.

Alice Hopkins had looked in great shape for a medal in the 75 mt hurdles after finishing 3rd in the inter counties last week. A negative 5-8mt/sec headwind put paid to any chance of a medal as she finished 7th in the final. A small consolation was a 6th place finish in the shot, backing up Luisa. Onward to Bedford and a shot at a national medal!
